3 PILL MORNING stopped by The Phoenix Lounge for a Saturday night show that capped off the first leg of their tour supporting their outstanding “Take Control” release that dropped just a few weeks early on 6.7.11. The current run of the Midwest and upper plains show dates have included opening slots for CANDLEBOX as well as PRIMER 55 along the way while this night’s show had them in the headline slot with St. Paul, MN heavy rockers PAIR OF SEVENS playing support at this Harrisburg, SD club.
3 PILL MORNING
The show got underway this Saturday night at 10:00 PM with PAIR OF SEVENS gracing the stage. The band provided a thick and heavy sound led by its two-guitar attack and the low end groove. Fans of DANZIG, GRAVE ROBBERS, and 70/80’s rock have something to enjoy with this band. Their set contained tracks off their 2008 “Midway Motel” and 2010 “Blood and Thunder” releases along with JUDAS PRIEST and KISS covers for fun.
PAIR OF SEVENS
Headliner 3 PILL MORNING took the stage around 11:15 PM and delivered a one-hour action packed set that was weighted heavily of the new release. Seeing the songs live explains why the band is so excited about the prospects of success from this effort that enlisted top notch producers Jon King (AUGUSTANA, FUTURE LEADERS OF THE WORLD ) , Brian Virtue ( CHEVELLE, 30 SECONDS TO MARS, DEFTONES) as well as Corey Lowery (SEVENDUST, DARK NEW DAY). The band packed a hard rock punch as evidenced with the set opener “Drive by Lies”. The band really took it to the next level with songs such as “Daddy’s Little Girl”, “Confrontation”, and show closer and current rock radio single “Loser” that maintain that edge, yet grab you with that unforgettable chorus and high energy stage presence. The band having already graced stages with BUCKCHERRY, PAPA ROACH, HINDER, TRAPT, NONPOINT, and many more worked the crowd quite well this particular evening. If there is any complaint from their set overall it would be the lower number of songs that were played (8) and the lack of one of their strong ballads being represented in the set list. With that said, they are a must see. Be sure to check them out later this summer FRAMING HANLEY and a fall run with NONPOINT.
