Though some of the faces have changed over the years LA’s BULLETBOYS (yeah, those guys) are still going strong.
Anchored by the ever-charismatic Marq Torien, they hit the stage at Dingbazt in Clifton, NJ with all the energy you remember from those staple MTV videos like “Smooth Up In Ya”, “For The Love Of Money” and “THC Groove”.
The band still sounds pretty solid and Torien doesn’t seem to have lost a beat as he still belts out the old hits and great new songs alike. The band relied heavily on material from the debut, as about half of their set was comprised of songs from that record. They also threw in a couple tunes off the “Freakshow” disc and a great new tune named “Road To Nowhere” which you can check out on their myspace page. All in all it was a good night from Torien and company.
Joining the BULLETBOYS on this night were local legends TNA to open the night and the California-based SWIRL. Both openers put on solid sets and certainly warmed the crowd up for the headliners.
TNA in particular, who Rockeyez has had the pleasure of witnessing several times of the last year were great. They seemed maybe the most “relaxed” we’ve seen them as the band genuinely seemed to enjoy themselves and by the end of their set they definitely worked the crowd over.
SWIRL, who I was not familiar with prior to the show put in an entertaining set of 80’s infused rock led by singer Al Ramirez and guitarist Duane Jones. You can check these guys out at www.myspace.com/swirl.
Special thanks on this night goes out to DonnaMae and Freddie at Dingbatz (the source for all your live 80’s rock & metal coming through NJ!) and to the guys in TNA, SWIRL and the BULLETBOYS.
