The Italian power metal band, AHRCANA, is working on new material as we speak. But in the meantime, they sent us over their 2003 release, “Into the Prophecy.” First, I love the vocals by Paolo Carboni. Actually, I think his accent is an attribute and a detriment at the same time. However, Carboni’s accent gives the band a trademark sound.
There is no doubt that Carboni has a strong presence sounding like Michael Kiske (Helloween) and a vocalist named Dicken (Broken Home). The thing that sets Ahrcana apart from Helloween is the melodic sound of Ahrcana. They bring a style that is unique to the ears. The high-pitched vocals has an army corps marching sound. “We’ll Reborn” starts as a ballad reminiscent of Geoff Tate's vocal style with an Italian accent. “In the Village” is a fantastic tune. The song begins with slow melodic guitar and then blasts into an all out blitz with guitars blazing. “Long Life to Dark Elf” keeps the power going in a Celtic style with running guitars... Amazing. “Tears in the Wind” (Instrumental) has slow electric guitar mixed with acoustic guitar for the first 30 seconds and then rips into a Malmsteen-like rhythm. Nice touch. These guys have a future in the metal world.
