After their success of their indie release "Get Through This" ART OF DYING has released their major label debut on Reprise Records imprint Intoxication Records called “Vices and Virtues”. The boys from Canada have been touring and gaining new fans worldwide and hope the new release will shoot them to higher ground.
The opening track “Die Trying” starts with pure power and I love not only the music but the production hits a climax with the heavy drum sounds of Jeff Brown. Those subtle elements that will probably go unnoticed by many will still pleasure the ears. Jonny Hetherington’s commanding vocals should no doubt bring the ART OF DYING to the level of sold out audiences. I know many times bands like HINDER, SEETHER sell out shows and their release do reach a milestone and I feel ART OF DYING will rock that world just the same.
The one thing that sets ART OF DYING apart from those other boys is their harder edge bringing a sense of TOOL which mingles with an alternative sound. “Get Through This” is an amazing tune and just elevates to pumping levels. The kids are gonna love this song. The power chords leading up to the chorus makes you want to turn that knob a little higher. You want your friends to hear this and say’ who’s that?’, Yeah Boy that’s ART OF DYING!
Another track that leaves others in the dust is “Sorry,” a killer power ballad, I can see the arms waving, this song has that southern pop feel of the classics that TESLA is acclaimed for. Jonny Hetherington shows the charisma and makes a huge presence throughout “Vices and Virtues “that will put him on the icon plateau.
The first three tracks are great songs but it’s time to rock and take it up a notch with
“The Whole World's Crazy” and let Greg Bradley’s guitar work shines. The song is raw and shows ART OF DYING can bring it.
“Completely” brings a new sound kinda like LIVE. What I love about ART OF DYING they give you the full spectrum. It’s just not a baseline basic they go out on that limb and show diversity.
After AOD blows you away with “Completely” they come right back at you with another power ballad with “I Will Be There” it’s chilling how good this CD is!
Let’s kick it “You Don't Know Me” I’m excited for these boys, this rocks!!!!
Check out the bass lines of Cale Gontier as he rips it up on “Straight Across My Mind” as all hell breaks loose may be the heaviest tune on the disc.
ART OF DYING leaves you with a soulful sensitive melodic rocker in “Breathe Again”. What can you say about “Vices and Virtues” it’s the best release so far in 2011 I’ve heard. It’s amazing with lyric, breaks, twists and turns and music that will fill arenas. Perfection at it’s best!
