Back in the late 80’s and early 90’s in the US we survived on hair metal and bands that could bring the goods along with the image. Bands like TRIXTER, KEEL, and FIREHOUSE were just a few, but now of all places Australia is popping with a band that has that very same flare. Sweden by far is leading the charge with this movement but the Aussie’s are making some noise and BABYJANE is the one making it.

Their release starts off with “Are You Listening” and it will smack you down and will draw your attention with some hard rockin’ power. I love Andy Smith’s vocals, which have great power with his screams yet he’s subtle when needed. Guitarist John Gerasolo will draw comparisons to Mr. Ace Frehley in a sense yet also has his own personality. These guys are the full package and very little is needed to make these boys skyrocket.

“Lil’ Gutters” has a bit of an AC/DC vibe but also has that same feel as the band CRAZY LIXX out of Sweden. I really like these boys because they do bring a sense of 80’s rock back but bring it into the modern day. “Lil’ Gutters” is a killer track that I’m feelin’ for sure.

BABYJANE certainly brings some full-throttle tracks with an adrenaline rush but they also have a soft and sensitive side with the track “Four Rusted Egos”. It just shows these boys from down under have good diversity in their music.

BABYJANE’s new release, “Are You Listening”, is not a throwback record but a progression that surpasses most releases of today in this genre. I think these guys have good potential to be a quality band for years to come. I hear some amazing guitar riffs, quality vocals and a midsection that’s above the norm. Check these boys out and add “Are You Listening” to your collection.
