Liquor and Poker are one of those record companies that bring some notoriety to explosive bands such as Backyard Babies, now The Black Halos. The Black Halos are one hell of a find. Their music could be compared to the Ramones meets The Clash. Hardcore power chords, harmonies and the guttural style vocals by Billy Hopeless.
Many of the songs like “Three Sheets to the Wind” and “Last Call at the Toothless Saloon” are in the vein of rock anthems. “Alive Without Control” is a pop, sing along song. I am sure with their kind of music they must be great to see live… a fun band to see. This is the type of music that brings back the heydays of the Romantics and The Buzzcocks party rock at its finest.
But don’t let the party get to out of hand because The Black Halos can also bring on the melodic rock with “Mirrorman” which is a great song. I love the background screams! The guitar work on “Alive Without Control” is also fantastic in the style of Dregen from the Backyard Babies. If you want to Party, have the Crowd Jumping, go out, and buy this CD and ‘Pump Up The Volume!’
