The new album “Horizons” from FAITHFULL is another one I was given by Brian here at Rockeyez to review and I’m glad he threw it my way. This Portuguese band certainly seems to be schooled in the sounds of classic American hard rock and AOR. Most obviously I hear shades of early BON JOVI (as soon as I heard the vocals of Sergio Sabino I thought a little of JON BON JOVI) along with some slightly less obvious influences of two other NJ acts; AVIATOR (without the pompy keyboards) and the more obscure JESTER. I also hear a little bit of the German act BONFIRE (thinking of the more melodic moments of their “Fireworks” album).
The songs are likeable enough and the production is passable if not a little “indie” sounding. The songs seem to have immediate hooks that grab you with just a listen or two signifying that the band has some songwriting talent. The songs aren’t anything that you haven’t heard before but if you are a fan of any of the above bands you may want to look into these guys. Some of the catchier tracks to me are the opening track “Time Flies”, “Somehow”, “Save The Clowns” amongst a few others. While band seems to hit its stride on tracks such as the ballad “Who’s The Face”, “Best Of Me” and “You Walked Away” which all seem to be a bit more cohesive efforts.
In conclusion, “Horizons” is a pretty decent affair from the band without being spectacular. If you’re a fan any of the above mentioned bands you’ll get a fairly enjoyable listen out of the disc.
