I’ve been listening to LIKE A STORMfor the past week as I drive in my car and it seems I get to where I’m going faster and faster! Born and bred in New Zealand, making their way to Canada and creating a frenzy, LIKE A STORMare surely bound for stardom.
Hooking up with the producer Mike Plotnikoff (THREE DAYS GRACE/MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE/BUCKCHERRY) and former YES keyboardist Igor Khoroshev, they both joined forces on the production process. LIKE A STORMhas been touring with CREED, STAINED, SKILLET and many other high profile artists as their limited edition EP sold over 3,000 copies in three weeks of touring. The endorsements are flowing in as the band strives for the ultimate goal of world domination.
I must have picked this CD up ten times before doing this review because I really wanted to check the lyrics out. The opening tune, after the short instrumental, “Chemical Infatuation” is trance-like and will have you adoring an imbalance of seduction to LIKE A STORM. The track is so addicting you will be hitting repeat for hours.
“Just Save Me” is just an unbelievable song, I’m not sure but I feel these boys have a strong spiritual embodiment. Lyrically they call on a higher power for direction and pummel your senses with special thoughts. The music is moving and the power shines through on every track.
Check out “Enemy”; it’s another track that has that arena rock feel. The songs are written well and are fan-friendly. “Enemy” also has a good live vibe which will bring excitement that you can sing a long to.
“Don't Cry” is an outstanding ballad, Brothers Chris and Matt Brooks are amazing vocalists, oh and did I mention there is also another brother to LIKE A STORM, bassist Kent Brooks? It’s certainly a family affair here!
I have to admit when I hear songs that make me feel good with strong lyrics and aggressive and mellowing vocals I feel invincible and I get that feeling with LIKE A STORM.
This is the type of CD that shines a positive message, yet still holds the torch for rock. You have superior musicianship, songs that are uplifting and just plain shred at times. You also have the soft side of acoustics and keyboards that adds dimension and body to the songs.
Just a phenomenal CD that’s chilling and if you read the lyrics you will get the message.
