The Medieval Folk metal band known as Orden Ogan was formed in Germany in 1996 and they bring a new meaning to the genre. Sebastian Levermann, the lead vocalist/lead guitarist, is an extreme master at production and arrangement.
The music can only be explained as a mix of Asia with a more classical vibe. The band sings in such a skillfully harmonious way that any other band would be envious. Both Sebastian Levermann and Tobias Kersting, lead guitarist in Orden Ogan, should be held in the highest regard. You have to hear the collaboration between the two members as they trade off on leads.
“Testimonium A.D.” starts off with angelic keyboards accompanied by a choir chant that gets louder as the song flows right into “Ethereal Ocean.” It's a real breath of fresh air. “Ethereal Ocean” opens with a heavy dose of keyboards and guitar with overwhelming power. The blazing song features flaring keyboards supplementing the guitar as it pumps out the voltage.
Sebastian Levermann’s vocals are like a melodic Greg Lake. “Angels War” is the highlight song having the perfect sound to be a classic tune for years to come. The song starts off with harmonies riding a high energy wave and then becoming melodic until the ripping guitars enter blending beautifully with angelic sounds. The harmonies and background vocals really push the song to its limits.
“The Step Away” is a great ballad with acoustic guitar and showcasing the tremendous vocal power of Sebastian Levermann. He is a true asset to the band and to the music community at large. If you have never heard of this man, pay close attention to his amazing work.
This is a fantastic CD and would be great for meditation. I recommend it highly.
