Where the Hell did this guy come from? Or better question… how did this guy fly under my radar for so long?

A couple of weeks ago, I got this CD in mail. It was rather cheaply packaged and the artwork itself depicting a flaming guitar with the name “Phil Vincent” imprinted across the top was kinda cheesy to say the least. Hell, it didn’t even have the tracks on the back sleeve or even a name or CD title on the side label ridge so that it could be easy filed and cataloged into one of my numerous CD racks. I think I could have done a better job in just a few minutes with a couple of pictures and Adobe Photoshop! So, it got put up on my shelf with the dozen or so other releases I had received in the mail recently.

Then just a couple of days ago, it turned up again as I was resorting some of my discs. That lame-ass font printed in white outlined in blue spelling out the name “Phil Vincent” against a maroon background staring me in the face again. So I thought, “What the fuck? Let me see what this is all about.” Not expecting much, I popped it into my CD player. What came out for the next 61 minutes was nothing short of excellent.

White Noise” is Phil Vincent’s 10th release… yes I said 10th!!! Most were released independently over the years by this Rhode Island musician and talk about multi-talented! With the exception of a few guest guitarists taking over lead guitar duties on a few tracks, Vincent himself handles everything else from soup to nuts. Bass guitar, vocals, percussion, keyboards and even writing, producing and arranging… Phil Vincent does it all!

I guess the best way you could describe the CD itself is a crisp blend of melodic and guitar-driven hard rock in the style of DOKKEN, XYZ or modern-day EUROPE. Even Vincent’s voice and vocal style reminds me of a cross between that of Don Dokken and Joey Tempest.

From start to finish, “White Noise” is chock-full of hefty rhythms, thick harmonies and tasty guitar solos and there’s not a ballad amongst them! Tracks like “How Long,” “This Time,” “Fall to Pieces” and “Voice of Reason” highlight this triumphant release. Then, other up-tempo rockers like “Show Me How,” “Take What You Want” and “Give Me a Reason” fill in the gaps nicely to solidify this tremendous montage of hard-rock ecstasy.

If you’re a fan of DOKKEN, EUROPE, or that melodic, hard-rock with an edge style, trust me… you need to go to this guys homepage and pick up a copy of this CD right away. As I said, the only thing you’ll find disappointing or misleading about “White Noise” is the artwork! And help spread the word about Phil Vincent. It’s about time that some labels step up and get behind this guy… he needs and deserves to be heard.
