This trendy trio straight out of Glasgow has a retro, flower power sound of the late 60’s early 70’s If I didn’t know better, I would have thought I was listening to a classic album from way back when times seemed a bit simpler. Sort of a “peace, love and no nukes”, kind of theme.
They have a BEATLE’S-ESQUE undertone combined with an uncanny similarity of John Lennon’s voice during his “Imagine” days. There is also a Lou Reed similarity from his VELVET UNDERGROUND days that has been transported in time to ROOM 39’s current, yet throw back style.
Iain O’Donnell has an angelic voice much like Lennon did. Iain is also multi-talented in that, he writes all the songs for ROOM 39 , plays many instruments such as the mandolin and the sitar. This helps give the songs a “flower power” feel to them. I find it quite refreshing. Good clean music that you can actually understand the lyrics and hear the instruments.
The tune “Walkin” has a bit of an “Itchycoo Park” by SMALL FACES sound to it. “Welcome to the Real World” really captures the bands talent as a whole. The smooth drum beats by Mark Hinds combined with the gentle sound of Iain’s mandolin and Kenny Campbell’s laid back bass lines, we have ourselves a nice rainy day, grab a cup of Joe, feel good song.
All three are in the 21 age range and already have such talent and looks to boot, so for all you younger gal readers, you will swoon over these lads. For other ages and genders, this threesome has a soothing, vintage sound that is pleasant to the ears so don’t throw away those bell bottom jeans just yet. Wait ‘til you check out ROOM 39 and go back in time.
