This is kinda cool. These dudes first met in high school and formed in 2004 playing some gigs in their spare time and doing the normal things high school kids would do. Then after school they went their separate ways. Eventually STREAM CITY would get back together with a new drummer and bassist and adding a violinist to the mainstay members of vocalists/guitarist Dion Finne and guitarists Peter Hjort.
The band seems to be concentrating on violence, racism, religion as the lyrics represent an ongoing assault on the national music industry and the Danish criminal justice system. I feel an essence of RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE for sure.
The CD titled "Hello Gravity" starts off with an amazing intro. Can’t say I am a fan of intro’s but this one is special, some great violin and cool guitar that really hit the spot. The intro runs into "The Magician" that just blew me away. Kinda like GREEN DAY meets THE CURE with a little Celtic feel. Really different sounding; Dion Finne is favorable and with that addition of violin by Christian Hjort hooking up with guitarist Peter Hjort it adds some sonic flare. Love it!
The speed is in the house with "Cap Confusion" as it’s fast-paced and turbo-charged, so fast the songs over as soon as it begins it seems. Good but fast!
"My Only Friend" has that Celtic vibe going again; just think fast alternative with a Celtic vibe and a violin gotta admit pretty unique and quite good. "My Only Friend" also adds some acoustic guitar which makes these guys even more diverse.
"Incompetent Doctor" is a song to kick up your heels and slap a few attendees in the mosh pit. STREAM CITY is like a new age MISFITS that infuses different elements and musical instruments and I like it. One thing that I feel kicked the shit out of me is the violin especially on the last track "Last Plague", which I loved.
These guys are unique but don’t look for any melodic tunes here. These guys are full blown adrenalin and kick-ass!!!!
