For me once a band says they’re Christian Rock, the one and ONLY band I think about is the top dog who we named CD of the year last year and that’s SKILLET. For me I’ve never considered a genre to be Christian or whatever you want to call it. Good music will be noticed no matter what you call it. SUBMISSION RED’s latest CD “Vision Tour” just happens to be produced by Ben Kasica of SKILLET and right away you notice the similarities. SUBMISSION RED play hard and heavy Alternative Christian Rock with some extreme power.
Listening to “Vision Tour” the songs have great structure and are done well. The musicianship is good and I see no reason why SUBMISSION RED can’t become a name in this genre of music. The thing is that so many are doing the same thing these days and that’s why some people may be getting tired of the “same ole same ole”. This sort of thing happened in the 80’s with “hair metal” or whatever you choose to call it. The saturation has made people start to loose interest. The one thing the band has on their side is a female front woman. Most alternative bands are all fronted by males and you know a lot of guys in the audience love seeing a female vocalist, and Yvonne Winfrey is a good one at that.
Winfrey is amazing and if you’ve never seen a picture of the band you could almost mistaken her vocals as male. Well at least until you hear the killer track “Drive On”. Up until this track you had some heavy hitters but “Drive On” pushes SUBMISSION RED to another level. I feel SUBMISSION RED has a little work ahead of them to become a force but it looks like there on their way. The CD is strong with a lot of diversity. Probably the track that could crack the bank will be “Inside”. The two softer songs are my favorites and I’m not saying the others aren’t good but that is just my preference. Check out SUBMISSION RED you may be enticed!
