TARA’S SECRET the UK based rockers have returned with their latest offering of pure AOR pleasure… well I truly hope so as RockEyez reviewed their last release “Tomorrow The World” in 2006 which got a fair review 2.5 Stars from writer Joe Manno. Manno is now gone so I will take the reins on this one.
After the first two tracks which are pretty good I do feel a southern vibe to TARA’S SECRET and that certainly doesn’t make the songs bad. The production is excellent, the songs are written well and it seems the band has grown from “Tomorrow The World”. I actually thought the opening track “Rock ‘n Roll Beauty Queen” was killer.
A pretty cool ballad in “The Last 2 Know” which has the essence of BON JOVI, well until the sweet female vocals by Sue Willetts enter. One thing that I totally enjoyed is the soaring guitar work of Richard Beardsley on “Vertigo” and (plus) the strong vocals of Johnny Trowbridge. The mid-section of Craig Chapman on guitar, Dave Deaville on bass and John Thomas on drums are an added bonus and others can learn from their good harmonies.
“Vertigo” isn’t all about ballads and traditional rock tunes either; check out the hard-hitting “Promises” and it (that) shows these boys can kick into high gear when it’s time so don’t lay back to long.
Check out the tasty keys of Craig Chapman on “One More Chance” and the harmonies which stand out…. Some might think I’m crazy but Trowbridge vocals have hints of Jon Bon Jovi at times.
Come on turn it up with “My Reward”; another hard-hitter that rocks the house. Richard Beardsley goes off on a tantrum. Great stuff here!!!!
Bring back the glam because “Shake What Your Mamma Gave Ya?” is what it’s all about. Great tune with a DANGER DANGER vibe. Ted, Bruno, Steve & Rob eat your hearts out!
I also loved the track “Homeland.” It’s all about structure, breaks and lyrics on this one. The song is amazing. Coming to conclusion, TARA’S SECRET is a fine-tuned polished machine. There was really not a bad track on Vertigo and can’t wait for their next release but in the mean time pick “Vertigo” up.
