When I first received the assignment to review THE BAND SPLIT I thought “oh boy here we go again, another lame garage band that I have to sit and suffer through”.
The first track I checked out “Stop Texting Me” is the final track on the CD ”Unimpressive”. I was pleasantly surprised with an instant sigh of relief. Not so painful after all. The lyrics are a trendy and accurate description of texting. BTW this is my favorite tune on the CD :) ~ Share it with ur BFF.
This foursome are a Chicago based garage, indie band that met in 2009 and put together some really good tunes. I read in the bands bio that the CD was recorded in a basement on a very low budget. They have a fresh homemade sound. The song “Cheater” is another good one. The lyrics are a hip description of being “burned” by another without sounding all sappy. They also did a nice black and white video to this song. “Back to You” has a great guitar sound. “Coffee Shop” music is what I relate it to.
I could see someone using one of their songs in a soundtrack to a movie.
I like these guys. They have a chic underground sound. If I’m ever in Chicago, I would make it a point to go see them. Good stuff.
