Getting signed to a label is not always the best thing in the world but for THULIUM out of England, its destiny. The band started in 2003 with one EP being released before their latest “69”, which came out a short time ago. As stated by lead vocalist, Boubou, their first EP was sent out for promotion and most likely many of those were put to the side in the bin and never listened to.
I understand their frustration but on the other side just imagine how many CD’s are sent into labels with the hopes of making the grade? Example, our site get tons of releases each week and we can’t handle all the material that’s sent in so how could a label. That’s why THULIUM have turned the tides and garnered a huge fan base to reach the masses. Their latest EP “69” has just hit the market so let’s take a listen.
The EP starts off with “Running” which has some potential but needs better production. It’s a basic track that tinkers with the alternative rock sound. It’s not a bad track I just don’t feel the excitement.
Track two, “Craving”, I thought was much better. The song flows well and has a classic sound and I really enjoyed the music but I just don’t feel the emotion vocally. A ballad called “90Days of Sorrow” ends the disc and again shows some promise.
I still feel THULIUM has good potential but I just don’t think this is disc is going to put them over the top. It’s good and I liked the melodic guitar work on “90Days of Sorrow” but THULIUM is just missing the mark.
