Too Fast for Love” is a millennium tribute to MÖTLEY CRÜE from Versailles Records. The album has an all-star roster, which kind of reminds me of the way the N.Y Yankees roster looks! It has some very impressive heavy hitters! The double CD has a boatload of MÖTLEY CRÜE’s best.

I am not one for tribute albums where I find redundant and weak attempts at mimicking the real thing. Yes, you will find solid performances and that is fine, but that should be left for the cover and tribute bands. Where you can go out for a few pops and enjoy listening to a live band striving to make you stay for another and wanting you to come back in a few weeks to hear it again.

In all, if you are going to pay tribute to your hero’s, by all means spend some time and effort in creating something special that will make your hero proud!

Now, by laying out the ground rules, onward with the listen…

I loaded the 2 disc set into my player and decided to clean out the old basement to make room for the new drum set my wife doesn’t know about! Yet! I figured why not! If I like what I hear I will move to the music and get the place cleaned up in no time. If I don’t like it I will move even faster and have time at the end to…Well let’s just say have my way with an undesirables!

The 2 discs contain a total of 25 songs. I am a CRÜE fan but not a fanatic, so I know some of these tunes will be a first hear. If I like them then I will seek out the original and give that a listen for comparison or should I say creativity!

The title song “Too Fast For Love” is replicated by Italy’s own THE RADIO VIPERS. If you listen to the original, you will absorb the innocence of a first album. THE RADIO VIPERS have captured that, and have done well with this one. “Dr. Feelgood” is by far one of my favorite CRÜE tunes. Heavy Hitter Frankie Banali on the skins delivers as axemen Keri Kelli and Eric Turner former hair band greats kill on this one! Moving along, next up is an all female band from Orange county CA, called PRETTY IN STEREO. Comes up with a cool version of “Don’t Go Away Mad,” a little creativity is showing here now!

A few more clones here and a few more garbage bags filled up with old keepsakes I found myself stopping and taking notice to John Corabi, Alex Grossi and Fred Coury’s version of “Home Sweet Home”, Nice job! Different!

I found myself stopping and checking the CD player to see if it scrambled another CD in play because a song came on that did not jive with what I was listening to. The song written by Tommy Lee “Blue,” on I believe one of his solo albums was recreated by Anthony Chue, a prominent film score composer. Vocal tracks were courtesy of Jessica Laven and Jake Brown with Nataraj laying in some nice guitar work. Great cut! Not a metal tune but a real nice creative change. I did find the original cut and compared the two. Tommy’s version was unexpected, but very different and actually good! The recreation was well written and I must say excellent! A perfect way to end the first CD!

Well I accomplished the task of cleaning and listening at a pace I thought was deemed!

Beer Break!!

Next, I found my way to jumpstart the afternoon fast approaching Happy Hour! On cometh “Kickstart My Heart,” done CRÜE style by Jason McMaster, Richard Kendrick, “Bing BangF. D’ Midi and A. J Caruso. It ROCKED!

I did find creativity in the next few cuts which was very enjoyable and satisfying but I found the order of the renditions a little disappointing because after listening to “ Kickstart My Heart” you are ready for anything, and then all of a sudden you find yourself sitting on the couch getting lazy. Now probably the best CRÜE song every in my opinion kicks in, I found myself walking the edge of the pool table on the “Wild Side” Oh yea baby! The album continues to flow with great rocking songs done nicely by some well-respected talent. Like I stated earlier. I am not a fan of ‘Tribute’ albums. Do I prefer a “Near Beer” or does Joey want the real deal! What do you think! In closing and in fairness this album does have creativity and will please the Diehard CRÜE fanatic! “Too Fast For Love” will make my Ipod shuffle list!

Rock On!
