When you’re working with a rep for a record company, they are trying to push one band, and you are really interested in getting stuff for another, they send you a package… The band you want to hear and the band they want you to hear… and sometimes there is a hidden gem. I received a few CD’s from Rob Spinelli over at Bodog Music Britt Black, Neurosonic and The Vincent Black Shadow.

I really wanted Britt Black but since he sent me three, I figured what the hell let me check them out. Britt Black and Neurosonic were both very good CD’s and The Vincent Black Shadow I didn’t even want to listen to because I heard the one track called “Metro” and their press package said they had a cabaret style circa Paris 1940's….(really not my bag).

They looked like Madness with a Shirley Manson (Garbage) female vocalist and an alternate dark look. For me the look was ok but cabaret style doesn’t cut it. Anyway I checked the CD out and I was pleasantly surprised The Vincent Black Shadow is an exceptional band that knows how to entertain with a charisma like no other. Cassandra Ford’s vocals are in the vein of Gwen Stefani and the musical direction is unique in the style of No Doubt meets the Stray Cats and guest keyboardist Mary Ancheta is a great addition.

For a band, I didn’t even want to review… ‘OK, call me stupid!’ There are so many good tunes on TVBS like “Control” which blows me away with the powerful vocals… just bellowing out of that small petite body of Cassandra. The ensuing song “Bullet on the Tracks” is another power punch with vibrant riffs and keyboards that Lily from The Munster’s would play. TVBS is a magical mystery chocked full of twists and turns from a gothic feel to rock and alternative. “Broken” makes another turn with Cassandra taking on a slight Stevie Nicks identity. Song after song will amaze you because they are that good. Do me a favor pick up this CD, and e-mail me--tell me what songs are not good. I BET YOU CAN’T.
