New Jersey bands are always compared to either Bruce or Bon Jovi but within the heart of Jersey, (the industrial pollution and one of the highest taxed states in the country) is the hidden gem of metal. Voodoo Terror Tribe is one of those sweet gems that have eluded the rock world. Voodoo Terror Tribe mixes the sounds of Alice in Chains with classy harmonies. I am not going to sit here and tell you that VTT is the best band I heard coming out of Jersey since the Boss, but they do have a unique sound. “Dark Promises” has a raw sound with catchy lyrics and a good chorus. The guitar riffs by Emir are not over-powering and fit the style of music played by the Tribe. “Divided” is another good track on “Mandala” that is acoustic based with tribal drums that balance the song.

Harry Dullys’ vocals can be described as in the style of Corey Glover -- Living Colour. The best track is “Too Blind To See” as it has aggressive hardcore harmonies with traditional vocals but gives a glimpse of the talent Emir brings to the band as he hits some memorable chords. I was not totally happy with the drum sounds that seemed tinny. That might have been the intentions of the band since they are called Voodoo Terror Tribe. Note: It had nothing to do with the drumming; it was the production of the CD.
