With the anticipation of WHITESNAKE’s eleventh studio album, flashbacks of how great of a band WHITESNAKE was and the images that are burnt in your memory bring high levels of excitement even before you hear the first track on their latest offering “Forevermore”. Coverdale has always been an icon in the music industry with history and longevity on his side fans will rejoice as a new decade of WHITESNAKE fans shall rise again.
The opening rocker “Steal Your Heart Away” is one heluva start with slashing guitars that’s hard driving almost a feel of a power tune by a modern day CREEDENCE CLEARWATER REVIVAL with a bit of an anthem flare. You knew the guitar work was going to be amazing knowing Doug Aldrich and Reb Beach were part of WHITESNAKE but who knew it was going to be this good. The guitars smoke!
“Love Will Set You Free” is the first single and video off "Forevermore". The song is a traditional staple trademark, high potency tune by Coverdale that has AOR radio airplay all over it. How can a WHITESNAKE release be true without a few ballads and “Easier Said Than Done” is epic. It soars and brings a calming feeling to your senses.
“I Need You (Shine A Light)” is really a different style tune for Coverdale, reminds me of an old time Alice Cooper tune or songs from back in the day during the classic era. It’s a song that you can really appreciate.
“One Of These Days” I can see Peter Criss singing this ballad as it is kinda in the same vein as “Hard Luck Women”. For me this is a strength for Coverdale and he pulls it off big-time.
“Dogs in the Street” is raw and heavy with a catchy chorus that fans will raise their fists to plus the guitar work by Aldrich and Beach is just phenomenal and it is one of my favorite tracks on the album.
On “Whipping Boy Blues” Coverdale does his best Mark Slaughter impression! The song rocks and lifts the disc another notch.
Ending the disc is the title track and actually my favorite tune, surprising being a ZEPPELIN style ballad that shows Coverdale is a class act. Great tune!
If you’re looking for songs such as “Still of the Night” don’t look this way. Still it's a killer release as the class of Coverdale and his mates shine through.
