Beneath the Beauty Lies” is a new release from AMPLIFY. The first cut on the CD "Becoming" leads in with a pretty much the same old basic mundane guitar riff. I thought it was going to get worse but it actually got better. The vocals in the chorus picked things up nicely and made the song interesting and different, which started to grab my attention. The song progresses steadily then backs down with a ˝ time bridge which is again different and somewhat catchy. I had to listen to the song a few times before I could grasp it. I did, and it was pretty good. Ok, the next tune “Hydro” was a very noisy song that needs major remixing, not much of a listen here. The next song titled “High as the Sun” gives off a colorful psychedelic vibe with low key vocals and a dominating distorted guitar with lots of color mixed in-cool tune.

There is something about this band that I like. I could go either way. It’s on the cusp of being annoying or very good! Moving on, cut four “Twilight” didn’t jump up at me, it was just OK. Again a very noisy mix and the vocals give no direction. On a good note, there seems to be a positive consistent unique vibe about the band throughout the CD. The CD mellows down with an eerie interlude. Kind of freaky, like sitting in a jungle waiting for the Predator to show up, Cool! Moving along into the next song “Home”, there are some real nice harmonies that make this song shine. “Home” is a nice, heavier style ballot with good arrangements and a catchy chorus. “Home” also delivers great keys that standout rather nicely. This song is a winner and the best cut on CD. “Connected” is the final cut on the CD. A little taste of Rob Zombie with AMPLIFY’S own style, makes this another strange but unique tune.

AMPLIFY has my attention. I think there is good talent here, but what is needed or recommended is a good producer. There are a lot of things going on that need to be sorted out and filtered. I did give this CD a few listens because of the uniqueness of the band, and listened to the CD on a few different audio systems, to conclude that the CD is in need of a remix. AMPLIFY has a lot going for them! With the right people helping them and a good mix, this band will go places!

ROCK ON!
