Ah, the beautiful town I live in, embedded within the universe of friendless people but if you look hard you can find just around the corner a vibrant music scene with a different nature. Yeah, there is the typical Emo crap that is so saturated that wiping your ass is redundant.
A couple blocks from my home is where a few of these boys who are incarcerated JFK Memorial Prison look forward to moving on to the real world where the evil of the mighty buck rules, who knows what their future holds. They spun a fine web regrouping with others and formed “MARILYN IS DEAD”. Kind of a fucked up name but who gives one shit if the music is good? And I hope it is, because with these boys living in my neighborhood, I will have these little bastards messing with my car, Watch it Matt ! Anyway enough bull let’s get onto the music.
One night coming home, I saw Matt Marshall the guitarist in the band and we talked a bit and a few days later he gave me his demo. Now he knows no matter what this will be an unbiased review and I hope Matt’s parents don’t give me stares when I see them, but hey that’s the breaks of the real world.
Their three-track demo starts off with a more electro Synth style tune called “Six Sextillion Tons”. The bombardment of directional turns makes it presences as MARILYN IS DEAD is sure to turns heads with a creative outlook. This is not your basic alternative powerpop band; these guys can bring it with hardcore screams and yet soften their tone with some great mainstream music. One thing that really stands out over your traditional fly by night artist is the addition of keyboards by Greg Scalera; this guy is magic and adds depth to MID. And Farkas’ voice is harsh at times but caresses key notes at precise times to show star quality.
On track two “Ink” Scalera once again kicks it into high gear and the dual guitars of Matt Marshall and Xavier Adams peak. Don’t think for one minute the man behind the skins Aaron Rosa is going unnoticed because near the end of the track that madman puts the ‘mad’ back in madman.
Ending the demo is “Everyone That You Think Is” which shows a more sensitive side to MID. All three tracks are powerful and I see a bright future for MID. I would say the only thing I would like to hear is a little more highlighting on the guitars maybe some solo material that stands out a little more, other wise MID is a good collective band as each member is equally important as they strive for success.
