I'd have to say it's impressive that an album like this was released in 2004. I say that because the sound of AdrianGale harkens back to the good-time party rock of the late 80's and early 90's. AdrianGale is the union of guitarist/drummer/songwriter Vic Rivera & vocalist/songwriter Jamie Rowe (ex- Guardian). This is their 4th release (3 LP's and 1 EP) on U.S. label, Kivel Records .
The album opens on quite the rockin' note with a short instrumental, Breaking Stride, which culminates with a speedy six-string workout that would make Yngwie proud! The album then kicks in with title track Crunch. Now if you're familiar at all with Rowe's previous band, Guardian, then you already know his voice bears an uncanny resemblance to Jeff Keith of Tesla. It's probably the first thing you'll notice when this rockin' song kicks in. The backing vocals have that great gang style that was so prevalent in the late 80's. Next track Faith continues with the feel-good vibe
and there go those gang vocals again! The ballad Without a Moments Notice is a great track with a nice arrangement that I believe could have been an MTV hit if it was released back in the day. Tracks like Tougher Than It Looks, When In Rome and This Time may not be breaking any new ground but you don't seem to mind when they're done this well! Other tracks like The Thin Line and Question (with a nice guitar solo) are a bit heavier and a little deeper lyrically and definitely add substance to the proceedings. The instrumental track, Freedom is laid back but very uplifting at the same time. The album ends with Last Call, a mid-paced track with a nice easy-going chorus. It's a great ending to a cool album. You don't see many newly recorded albums of this style and of this quality these days. So if you're still carrying the flag for the hair band sound you should check this release out.
