It is very unlikely you will have a band like Between Home and Serenity coming out of the same high school of North Olmstead, Ohio where the band attended. I have visited North Olmstead in my younger years while trekking myself to staff writer Joe Merante’s home who lives close to the town, a quiet middle class neighborhood.
BHAS are your traditional emo / screamo band with high energy and tremendous vocals. Many of the bands that are coming out of that genre of music are good like BHAS, however they need to bring something different to the table and BHAS certainly does that.
The band has an even more potent lead guitarist named Anthony Dargaj who pushes the buttons to the limit. Emo stands for emotional music and the mix of Dargaj’s power playing and the raw vocals of Ian Ver can match up to the best of them. The harmonies on “Power Weapons in the Complex” totally rock with intensity. “Tranquility” is one of the high spots that show diversity going from rhythmic guitar to over the top power pop.
This is an excellent debut from the boys from Ohio BHAS.
