Come on Josh Todd and BUCKCHERRY ever since they came on the scene they have been innovators. Check out the “Lit Up” video , It’s raw and has essences of early GUNS n ROSES; then as they move on with “Ridin’” the style changes slightly in the direction of AC/DC and THE STONES. Todd is a true rocker and growth is in his blood. With the new release coming out of Seven Eleven Music called “Black Butterfly ” BUCKCHERRY is still raw and powerful.
The opening track “Rescue me” is catchy and melodic and drives the adrenalin to ecstasy. You can’t deny Todd gives one hundred and ten percent in his performance. This is a band that has the feeling with the magic coming across loud and clear. Check the riffs on “Tired Of You” sure seems like AC/DC is running through their veins.
With a directional change you have “Too Drunk…” bomp, bomp. bomp, a little swing from the Cherry Boys. This is a great tune that will have the crowd thumping. The guitar work is killer on this one. The softer side of BUCKCHERRY comes with “Dreams” which will be an AOR Top rotation tune. No it’s not a ballad, just a good rock tune.
“Don’t Go Away” is another sentimental tunes in the realms of a ballad. BUCKCHERRY sure know how to write great lyrics and you can hear that on “Don’t Go Away.” What the fuck, sounds like a country song, nah but could make it to the country rock charts if Josh starts wearing a cowboy hat and some spurs. Yee-ha!
“What A Day For A Daydream” LOVIN’ SPOONFUL oh sorry wrong song. I really can’t figure why they put this track on “ Black Butterfly“ but really it’s not bad, but after rocking out throughout the CD you have a song like do, do, do. Snore, great song for kids in second grade.
BUCKCHERRY come right back with speed and pummeling with “Imminent Bail Out,” slashing guitar, screams and pumping sounds. Now this is Rock!
The march is on with “Cream,” drum rolls like the beginning of KISS’ “Love Gun” another song hard to figure out, but in the middle of the tune the lifts higher as the drum rolls on. I like this tune a lot because it goes is so many directions you’re not sure what you’re getting. Is it a ballad, a hard edge song no it’s “Cream.”
All in all this is a good CD, one you should add to your collection. It has its highs and lows, but nothing a let down. You have rock, you have soft but you never know what’s in the middle. BUCKCHERRY rules!!!
