In this new age of music, you never know what direction music is going to turn; But the classic tunes will always be the backbone of rock. Songs like “Radar Love,” “Space Truckin’” and many more.
Back in the 70’s we had Cactus - America’s version of Led Zeppelin as they were called by many. The band had a big following and as music evolved with the changing tide, the band faded away like many. Band members went their separate ways creating more classic tunes with different artists. Well thirty plus years later they are back with original members except for Rusty Day who past on in 1982. The new man fronting Cactus is former Savoy Brown vocalist Jimmy Kunes.
As the CD plays, there are some great tunes… and you can never take away the longevity of Appice, McCarty and Bogart but is there a fan base for their style. We have Rap, Nu-Metal, Power Metal, Alternative and many others but few fans are into the resurgence of classic rock. Jimmy Kunes does a great job on vocals bringing an essence of Early Bon Scott, Paul Rogers and Chris Robinson. In comparison Cactus is like Bad Company with a little more blues. “Cactus Music” is a great song with a “Radar Love” feel swinging into the modern day. You get the whole vintage rock package on “V” from slide guitar to harmonica bringing back a memory of J. Giels and Magic Dick on the licking stick. Great stuff, as I said… but will there be an audience for Cactus?
