Circus Maximus came to our attention recently by the promotional director of IntroMental Management, Lars F. Larsen, when I asked, “Who is the best new undiscovered band that he knows,” and his answer was Circus Maximus.

So we got in touch with band and received their new release “The 1st Chapter.” Let me tell you - the man was right. Circus Maximus is one of those bands that are a landmark.

Vocalist Michael Eriksen sounds like Lance King (Pyramaze) and Joey Tempest (Europe). The music has power and shredding guitar work by Mats Haugen. The opening track “Sin” is an outstanding song which shows off the musicianship in Circus Maximus.

“Alive” is melodic and will blow you away. The ivory work by Espen Storo is high class and the arrangements at various points on the track are masterful. Let’s hope this band does not fade away like many others with such talent.

Michael Eriksen has to be one of those vocalists that so many will love. He has the presence that will electrify an audience and bring you to your feet. What I like about this release is that the lyrics are not monotonous and repetitive. These tracks actually tell a story and hold your attention.

Check out “Silence from Angels Above”... talk about Geoff Tate (QUEENSRYCHE) being the best singer in music? THINK AGAIN. This is an unbelievable track that has to be heard. I know we will get e-mails about this review, but buy this CD and listen for yourself. This is one of the best releases of the year.
