MTM is leading a charge of past melodic top-notch bands that are making a resurgence in the music world. MTM is finding that fine jewel and re-releasing albums now on CD that are out of touch with the price tag of the original pressings.
Back in 1989, DA VINCI the Norwegian sensation released a couple albums the last one being “Back In Business.” MTM has hooked up with DA VINCI and have made that possible for all fans of the band to reach out and grab that CD now for a reasonable price tag.
DA VINCI is in the vein of EUROPE with pleasurable easy flowing tunes and some fantastic vocals by Robert Aass. Bjorn Boge bassist of DA VINCI had a short stint with John Norum after his departure and guitarist Gunnar Westlie is presently a member of EIDSIVATING.
If you’re a fan of EUROPE this is a must have in your collection, tons of melodic ballads, great hooks and harmonies that will melt your heart. “Touchdown” should have put the band on the map for an eternity, but like many of the great European bands, only a handful ever reached the acclaimed status they should have had.
The CD is so balanced with pop style keyboards and Tempest/Tramp vocals, it makes me choke, but I know our writers Dave and Mark are floating on cloud nine because they love pop rock. But to tell you the truth the CD does kick ass and I hope I am not falling in that meditation mode like our other writers.
“Young Hearts” could be a great slow dance song at a wedding, I feel a tear coming on, and I have to keep my composure so I can hear the rest of “Back In Business.” There you go “9 and 10” kicks into high gear with a much heavier rocking tune.
But DA VINCI follows up with another ballad, almost in comparison to AIR SUPPLY, oh shit! was I suppose to say I have a AIR SUPPLY CD, what are my rocker friends going to say after listening to SLAYER, poser.
All in all there are just too many great tunes on this release, song after song are magic. The only thing I don’t see from this release is a follow-up release, since the band has gone in different directions. But at least the fans will be happy; they will not have to pay those high dollars for the original.
