Well, well another band having uproar… in Finland… Yeah this time it’s not Sweden for a change. DEFUSE started its trek back in 2000 when they started polishing their sound with their first independent demo in 2001. After a few years of touring the band replaced Ville and recruited new bassist Tero Karjalainen. In 2006 DEFUSE released their self titled CD with two videos hitting the scene. Their latest video for “D.I.B” (Click Here) features Marco Hietala of NIGHTWISH who makes a guest appearance.

You can’t deny that the music of DEFUSE is catchy, and regardless what people might say, I’ve heard enough of this pop culture style music they all sound the same…true, but bands like DEFUSE, PRIVATE LINE & BACKYARD BABIES keep getting signed, why because it sells and people still love the throwback sound of the 80’s which is making a comeback.

I mean listen to the CD you can hear the influences of GUNS n ROSES and other vintage killer 80’s bands. “Straight in Two” and “Killing Another Tear” which are the first two tracks. You know the blood is boiling, if not somethings wrong with ya. Just check the drop downs of the guitar chords and the searing high notes by Arto Ahonen, you know your feet are tapping away (who you kidding).

Jani "Hylzy" Hyvärinen vocals are raspy and raw but it works well with the music that’s being played, the biggest let down for me was watching the video for “D.I.B”. I didn’t feel the energy that should have been brought forth by Hylzy. The music itself is hard hitting and exciting and there’s a lot of great tunes to be heard. If you’re an 80’s rock fan you will love DEFUSE. Check these boys out!!!

Before I end Tuhma records did a great job packaging the CD in a hard shell box set which includes the CD and a DVD with both DEFUSE videos.
