Ya know photographing for Metal Forces magazine back in the day took me on a ride of a lifetime; photographing club shows to big arenas and meeting a multitude of rockers. I had some experience shooting tame shows like Pat Benatar, Rick Springfield to METALLICA and KING DIAMOND, now that’s what I called diversity.

Many shows stood out like covering MÖTLEY CRÜE during their ‘Shout at the Devil’ tour and Alice Cooper’s ‘Welcome to My Nightmare’ to KISS’s ‘Dressed to Kill’ tour. So naturally, I look at bands saying, ‘will there ever come a day when some of these new bands are as great as those icons?’ I listen to a CD differently; I listen for musicianship, detail and energy of excitement. Everyone has their favorite bands and favorite genres but for me I run the gambit listening to everything… well almost everything.

I received an e-mail recently from Jonny of DIRTY PENNY’s and he asked did I ever get their CD because he was checking our site out and didn’t notice a review. Later in the week, the CD arrived. Now looking at the cover all I can think of are the highly talented Sleaze bands coming out of Europe and I noticed something shocking DIRTY PENNY is from the UNITED STATES. Wholly shit could it be, we really don’t compare to Europe in Sleaze and I really haven’t heard any bands coming from the US in sometime that have tickled my bones.

I have noticed while doing our site many bands dress the part but just can’t hold a note so I wasn’t getting my hopes up. So I gave it a spin!

First of all, these guys can bring it hard and heavy, Binge Daniels’ vocals are comparable to Vince Neil’s of MÖTLEY CRÜE and their music has the flair of CRASHDÏET and early KISS. The first song that gets me pumping is “Push Comes to Shove” you can hear the KISS comparison musically and they hit the mark with their background vocals. Jonny Prynce’s guitar shows amazing style going from hard kicking notes to smooth melodic melodies.

The second tune to kick it up a notch is “Sleeze Disease” which brings back memories of my favorite Sleaze band and echoes of Dave Leppard. This is one of the highlight songs that will put DIRTY PENNY on the map. I really wasn’t expecting much from DIRTY PENNY but they proved me wrong we actually have a U.S. band to look to for the future of Sleaze.

These boys can also show some blues when the time is right. Check out "Black N’ Blue" and show some love check the harmonica licks. This should be a crowd favorite. Prynce shows some great guitar slinging as he gets down on this one.

“Vendetta” is another killer tune that’s flying high on my charts. This song is pure hardcore hair metal at its finest. There are just so many great tunes to hear, so Sleaze fans need to latch onto DIRTY PENNY before they hit the big time. Probably my favorite tune has to be “Sleeze Diseases” (Acoustic), this song shows what a class act like DIRTY PENNY can do, simply amazing tune plugged or unplugged, I prefer the unplugged version.
