The debut record from DIVING FOR PEARLS was released by Epic/Sony back in 1989. On this debut, they had two outstanding tracks - 'Gimme Your Good Lovin'', and "I Close My Eyes” (which incidentally was their most popular tune). These New Jersey boys were even listed on “Kerrang's’ top 20 albums of 1989” with their debut.

Now it’s sixteen years later and they have finally released their follow up called “Texas”. The production for “Texas” was done by drummer (David Prater) who also produced Dream Theater.

Steadfastly holding on to their roots, Diving for Pearls bangs out 12 new tracks of catchy pop tunes while adding their fine touch. Danny Malone’s vocals are reminiscent of Josh Todd (BUCKCHERRY). “I Thought About You” starts off like Bon Jovi’s “Wanted Dead or Alive” with a similar guitar riff and then bounces into a catchy tune.

“The Truth Is” really highlights Danny Malone's vocals, and clearly shows that he has not lost any vocal power in these past years. His voice is like a fine wine that gets better with age. “The Truth Is” could be classified as a great ballad in the vein of Bryan Adams.

The tracks that explode on “Texas” are “If I Only Knew” and “The Colours Show.” It seems to me that these could be top AOR rotation songs.  Malone just oozes with charisma and puts that perfect punch into these tracks.

It is sad that we have missed many years of what could have been some excellent material from DIVING FOR PEARLS. But lucky for us, at least they are now back and better then ever in my opinion. My advice - get this CD!
