In times of trouble you can always call on the demons from hell Dragonlord. How can anything this band puts out be bad IT CAN’T? This is the side project of Testament's Eric Peterson who also recruits former Testament members Steve Smyth, Derrick Ramirez, and Jon Allen. Get this Dragonlord has a new addition to the line-up Cradle of Filth guitarist Gian Pyres, now that is a line-up. The band was original called Dragonheart but since changed their name to Dragonlord.
Peterson’s vocals are down right guttural and at times melodic. But with the ripping corpse of hell bound metal Dragonlord plays it will wake the dead. The guitar work is just impeccable when Peterson and Smyth hook up with Lyle Livingston on keyboards black smoke arises in the ashes from purgatory. “Until the End” will amaze you with nightmares and memories of ‘Nightmare on Elm Street’ screeching finger blades tearing you apart. The music is blood red demonic but the musicianship surpasses the traditional symphonic death metal to reach great heights.
I am not a big fan of this genre of metal but Dragonlord can change my mind in how good the music is arranged. The eerie feeling you get from “Sins of Allegiance” is almost Wasp like but Blackie Lawless can’t even kiss Peterson’s ass, yet alone shine his boots. I love the keyboard work by Livingston which adds great depth to the music and makes these release a classic. Buy it, steal it, get it anyway you can or you will be visited by the horns. “Black Wings of Destiny” is a must!!!
