Are you telling me I am bias towards GRAND DESIGN? Why because in 2009 “Time Elevation” got 5 Stars on RockEyez and in 2011 “Idolizer” got 5 Stars plus being named BEST album of the year on RockEyez? No way, good music is good music no matter how you slice it.

GRAND DESIGN is back in 2014 with their new release “Thrill Of The Night” with ten new clear cut winners. The disc starts off in high fashion with “U Got Me Good” with power chords blazing and then settles down into an 80’s style tempo of THE CARS.The chorus to the track is the shining star that brings the song to a top level. “Rawk N Roll Heart Attack” has DEF LEPPARD written all over the song. It has strong production and amazing musical direction, just a power house song that will have the kiddies singing along. Janne Stark’s lead guitar work on the entire “Thrill Of The Night” release is massive and his sidekick Dennis Vestman’s guitar work pushes these guys to the forefront as new demi-Gods of melodic rock.

“The Rush Is Gone” is up next and all I can do is I get on my knees and say "we are not worthy". What a song! This is a song that most bands can only dream of crafting. It has all the perfect elements to a song that should put GRAND DESIGN on top. Pelle Saether vocals are totally outstanding; subtle at one moment then blast off hitting all the high notes at another. This guy on every release by GRAND DESIGN has always delivered and he does it once again on “Thrill Of The Night”. “10 Outta10” is another great track as it’s a fast-paced and in your face rocker that lifts the spirits of any human. What makes this song killer is the rhythm section of drummer Magnus Ulvstedt and bass of Mats Vassfjord.

“When The Greatest Love Of All Kicks In” slows things down with this sentimental love song.It’s great that GRAND DESIGN has such diversity . They can bring it in all styles. “Rip Iddup” is a great track that gives way to Janne Stark that has the golden touch because his guitar work is so explosive on “Thrill Of The Night” with his solo’s being smooth and soaring yet he can cut the strings with immense power chords and by no means is Dennis Vestman a second fiddle. This guy compliments Stark and adds to the powerful sound of GRAND DESIGN.

“Get Up N Love Someone” has the tantalizing sounds of DEF LEPPARD again. The master behind the track is pure Pelle Saether when he reaches the chorus full ecstasy is present. He brings his magic through that unique golden voice.Starks goes off the hook in high fashion with those elevated guitar notes.

With a melodic gem “You're The Only One” the chorus is the key to the song.The song is relaxed at points but once the chorus hits the song comes to life. Love the screams by Pelle during some points that really make a big difference in the song.

“Who's Gonna Rawk U Tonite” reminds me of a James Bond theme song. It has great guitar tapping by Starks and once again the solos are a key point. Ending the disk is the title track “Thrill Of The Night”. It starts off PINK FLOYD-ish then makes a 180 degree turn to a hard rocker. It’s a tremendous song with a chorus that will put you in the clutches of GRAND DESIGN.

All in all it’s an amazing 3rd release by GRAND DESIGN, so pick up this 5 star gem along with the past releases and United States of America can get ready for the first time as GRAND DESIGN will soon be on US soil at Melodic Rock Fest 4 in the Chicago area on October 3-4 at H.O.M.E. Bar in Arlington Heights, IL.
