This album caught me off guard this time. Once in awhile I’ll stumble upon an album that can be considered underrated or takes multiple times to listen to so I can actually come up with some sort of conclusion.
This time, the conclusion was good…
GREEN CARNATION is a gothic metal band from Norway with ex-guitarist of Emperor, Tchort, and Kjetil Nordhus who is also the singer for Trail of Tears. I’ll tell you right now, all six musicians know what they’re doing…
“The Quiet Offspring” can be described as another approach at gothic metal adding subtle melodic essentials with doom elements suggestive of Katatonia. “Purple Door, Pitch Black” is a major favorite and one of the big highlights of “The Quiet Offspring.” The whole album has an interesting life of its own and can take a few listens to actually appreciate their music. This CD is exceptional and a must hear for anyone interested in the mellow and grimmer side of metal. Lay back, take a breather from the fast-paced music that’s out there, and have GREEN CARNATION pull you into their world. Rock On!
