Jacobs Dream released their latest venture on Metal Blade Records called “Drama of the Ages.” The band recruited new vocalist Chaz Bond from the band Biogenesis. Mr.Bond’s vocals are like a harsher Geoff Tate (Queensryche). Jacobs Dream mixes heavy metal with power metal to get a unique sound.
I can’t say I hear anything special on the disc. It is good but not enough for me to buy it. The music itself is decent but I just couldn’t get into the vocals of Mr. Bond. The tracks are average with few highlights.
In track-five “Tempest” I started to hear something high-quality and was waiting for that punch but it never came. To tell you the truth, the best part on the CD is the guitar playing by John Berry. The man is highlighted on all tracks with some exceptional riffs.
I’m not saying the new effort from Jacobs Dream is bad, I am just saying it is an average CD. You do have a few good songs like “Forever Winter,” “Drowning Man” and “Deceiver of the Nations.” I am sure fans of Jacobs Dream will love the CD, but as far as pulling in new fans, I think this effort is lacking. The highlight track on the new release is “Cutting Words”which is a great track just showing what the potential Jacobs Dream has.
