From the very beginning of LANFEAR’s album, “aNother gOlden rAge,” this album showcases what true balls out power metal can be - total aggression and non-stop power.
The great thing about this band, I don’t hear the same old solos that are usually kept around in the same style on every song on this CD, similar to bands like BRAINSTORM, or EDGUY. These bands are still good but I just think that they need to change their style on song arrangements and progression.
This album delivers pretty well with every song. The title track starts with major ferocity and outstanding vocals. I guess you call the vocalist, Tobias Althammer, the typical power metal vocalist. Jurgen Schrank is a monster on the drums. He can really switch different styles throughout each song, which helps a lot. Markus Ullrich is a revelation on guitar. Really brings a great style to the band.
One of the many highlights, and my favorite track, is “Shades Of Black.” This song just plainly kicks major ass!!! It’s so friggin’ good!!! I first heard this song on a Spanish CD sampler that came with a magazine from Portugal I received this summer. Once I heard this song, I was hooked. The second song that stands out is “Outliving the Ages,” which reminds me of an IRON MAIDEN epic mixed with QUEENSRYCHE’s “Roads to Madness.”
The only track I would have to complain about would be “Eternally,” this ballad is just plain bad. It sounds like a song that belongs in some 80’s romantic comedy love scene, complete with a saxophone solo. Nevertheless, this album is totally worth any price. Pick it up if you have a chance.
