New Jersey is known for surfing down at “The Shore.” Bon Jovi and the Boss are the legends there but Jersey also has another hidden treasure called Legion. You don’t find many bands playing heavy metal in the vein of Rainbow with vocal style of Steve Grimmett of Grim Reaper. “Illusion” is a fined-tuned gem with the backbone of the music featuring Francesco T. Adamo guitar sounds.
“The Watcher” is right out of the mold of Deep Purple’s “Perfect Strangers” even sounding like Ian Gillan. Legion’s new CD “Shadow Of The King” could have had better production, which would have made many of the songs sound better. The high hat on the drums is very tinny sounding and the guitar and vocals sound slightly muffled.
But for an independent release, it is not that bad. The songs are well written and the arrangement will send you back to memories of the great sound of vintage Deep PURPLE’s “Space Truckin’” days.
“Color (You and I)” has to be the highlight track, which just sets the mood for a melodic romance. The vocals by Bunk and the classical guitar work by Adamo sets this song apart from the other tracks on “Shadow Of The King.” This a good start for the boys from Jersey and I look forward to their sophomore release.
