Still pushing the levels of extreme LYKEN21 formed back in 2005 in New Jersey releasing “Mindstream” in 2007 and “Chaos Before the Crime” in 2011. “Chaos Before the Crime” really changed the bands sound with the additional second guitarist Turkish born Emir Erkal.

Back for a third round their newly released disc “Konceptus” is a quest to relinquish pure metal in the style of LYKEN21.  “Coven13” starts it all off with heavy down tuning
that adds to the mystique of hidden treasures. It has a mixture of a heavy style SAVATAGE with flares of OVERKILL.  “Lost Head” highlights bass master Andres Nuiver that shines. Really enjoying this track that has a dark side yet can move metalers to raise the torch. Oleg Lipovchenko and Emir Erkal guitar work exploding
solos and the double kicking drums of Matt Biehl give the song that arena feel.

Marton Miklos brings the total package of vocals to LYKEN21 who has touches of Paul DiAnno to his voice but not as harsh.  “Deth Be No More” has that same style as early MAIDEN fast paced in your face metal that drives the nail home.

“Victimized” brings a side of KING DIAMOND meets MAIDEN with slashing guitar work that kicks into high gear. Listening to the first couple tracks LYKEN21 are a true metal band that can be swayed in many directions. I hear good heavy metal that almost touches on the edges of Thrash.

“Tomorrow” is purely influenced by MAIDEN no doubt but halfway through the song changes to a melodic tempo. Marton Miklos vocals are exciting and a little hard to nail down but he stands tall among others.  “Doomsday Deception” is a full blown annihilation that elevates with massive destruction. The music is dark in tone yet has highlights that raise the bar.

Jumping to “Psychocoustic” I have no idea why this song is even on this disc. After the blood was pumping LYKEN21 hit you with a song that is just way to mellow the only thing good about the track in the suave guitar work. “Come, one Come all” is another song that fall short of ecstasy. I know ANTHRAX can pull off a rap rock style tune but “Come, one Come All” misses the mark.

Now if you are looking for a directional change “I Do” is amazing. It’s a ballad that really blows my mind. This is a song that a good metal band can pull off like LYKEN21. Musically vocally an excellent song!!!!! That has killer harmonies, and excellent background vocals.

Another tune that goes out on a limb with a change in style is “Midlife” and works well.
This song will capture fans off guard but it’s just something to the song that will make the grade. The disc ends with Wind (interlude) is this the same band as the beginning of the disc. It’s like two different releases but this song is a melodic killer tune. It shows how a band like LYKEN21 is multi-talented and I like it because as a music fan you always hear OH shit this new CD sounds like the last one well not hear at all so get a taste of LYKEN21 “Konceptus” and welcome to the hidden mystery of music….
