MIDNITE CITY was formed in January 2017 by TIGERTAILZ front-man Rob Wylde, who teamed up with Pete Newdeck on drums, Shawn Charvette on keys and Josh 'Tabbie' Williams on bass. The self-titled album releases on October 20, 2017 and should bring power pop fans scurrying for this debut offering.

The opening track “We Belong” is full-throttle excitement, starting the album with pure ecstasy as it sure tickled my senses and I hoped the rest of the disc could keep the pace. Up next, “Ghost Of My Old Friends” is another outstanding track and can hold the torch for classic melodic rock. Wylde’s vocals are reminiscent of Ted Poley, one of Wylde’s favorite vocalists. The third song, “Summer of Our Lives”, is held together by the killer chorus and great overall harmonies. Wylde’s guitar style is not overpowering but fits the melodic power pop mold perfectly.

“Nothing’s Like Losing You” starts off as a basic melodic rock track but halfway through the tune it gains momentum and explodes with pure delight. The song elevates with pleasure as the levels get higher. Track Five, “Last Beat of My Heart” keeps the flow with a good song that delivers on the melodic power pop front yet again. This is also the first track that Wylde pushes his guitar to the forefront.

Through the first five tracks I hear no fillers just some fun good-time music! To me MIDNITE CITY is a well-rounded machine that has four high profile musicians that just know how to deliver this style.

Track Six brings a softer edge with “Everything You Meant To Me” which holds true to a true power ballad and it’s just an outstanding song. On the following track, “Can’t Wait For The Night”, I really don’t know what else to add as the song follows suit with the rest of the disc; it’s another fine song that will hold your attention while bringing you back to the good old days when music was filled with fun. “One Step Away” opens sounding like Rick Springfield meets Paul Laine during the DANGER DANGER era. It’s a nicely crafted power pop song with a great sing-along chorus that will satisfy most fans of this music style.

On “I Just Can’t Take It” you get more of the same with power pop guitar riffs and melodic verses leading into a huge chorus complete with the requisite “gang” backing vocals that give the song a slight anthem quality. The album is rounded out with the final two songs “Things She Said” and “Think About You”. On “Things” you get one of the strongest songs on the record in my opinion. It’s mid-paced song with nice build and just the right amount of emotion. Finally, on “Think” you get another great melodic rocker with just a bit of attitude added to the power pop style and some killer guitar work to round it all out.

MIDNITE CITY offers a nice surprise in the melodic rock/power pop field and an album that you’d be hard-pressed to find fault with if you preach at the altar of DANGER DANGER/Paul Laine/The DEFIANTS , etc. Great job, boys.
