Back in 2005 the debut release by MISS CRAZY knocked my socks off especially the song “No Compromise”. As the years went by and multiple line-ups ensued the fan base held onto the torch with MISS CRAZY. The pandemic hit all bands hard with touring, but MISS CRAZY let the music continue to flow and earlier in 2022 saw two new MISS CRAZY albums; Covers Volume I and II, but the fans demanded more original music and to their delight Markus Allen Christopher and company have responded, and the new release “Clones” is now here.
“I'm Never Gonna Get Over You” is the opening track that has some good riffs and a catchy chorus and overall sort of reminds me of LOUDNESS. Track two is the title track “Clones” and to tell you the truth it’s not one of my favorites. It’s more of a throwback sound of the ‘80s pop culture in the vein of the CARS but to me MISS CRAZY is known for its hard-hitting songs and driving forces. The track is also their new video and as previously mentioned MISS CRAZY was known for bringing a great package with a full-on stage show and make-up. Even the CD packaging has band photos with make-up, yet the video has no signs of it. Is that part of the band now gone?
“Living In America” sets the disc on another level with soaring guitar and hard-hitting melodic lyrics. Once again, I feel influences toward LOUDNESS which to me is a good thing.
The track “Miracle” is my favorite track on the album as I love the lead vocals and the backing vocals which just brings the song to another level. This is classic MISS CRAZY at its finest in my opinion. “Tonight” switches’ gears and highlights Nicole Willard on lead vocals. What an excellent song executed to perfection. It has a Lita Ford vibe and really hits the home run ball for me. “V.A.” is an instrumental track that I didn’t think MISS CRAZY would be able to pull off; hardcore volatile metal is how it sounds. I don’t usual like instrumentals, but I love this one!
Ending the disc is “She Loves Me” another track that I adore. It really brings back the early days of MISS CRAZY’s sound. All in all, Clones is a good release by MISS CRAZY that features some classic moments from the band but also some different styles too, which maybe didn’t quite hit the mark for me. You can pick up CLONES on Eonian Records and follow MISS CRAZY on all the usual social media outlets. Hopefully they will tour soon (with make-up!) and bring their killer show to stages again.
