Looking at the new Nashville Pussy CD, you'd think it was a spoof on Spinal Tap. Well, while there are some similarities, you'd have to check out the music. The new CD “Get Some” produced by Daniel Rey (Ramones, White Zombie, and Masters of Reality) brings out the best in ‘Pussy, oozing with high-energy, pumping hard rock. The guitar work by Ruyter, while not specifically traditional, is pounding and makes the songs glow.
Blaine Cartwright's vocals are reminiscent of Alice Cooper at his best. This CD is no joke. It's fun and practically makes your blood boil. “Going Down Swinging” is a great song that has all the makings of early KISS. Personally, I like everything about ‘Pussy, they have a great concept, great music, and just as importantly, they have fun. I mean, you hear sounds of Alice Cooper, Deep Purple, KISS, AC/DC and even Lynyrd Skynyrd.
“Hate and Whisky” is a killer track that Alice would love. The melodic guitar and vocals explode together to make a great song. Nashville Pussy has a new member on bass named Karen Cuda. Karen isn't just eye-candy; she plays the longneck wood like no other and she is a great addition to this band.
Nashville Pussy does a rendition of Tina Turner’s “Nutbush City Limits” that comes off pretty well. Really, no one can ever match Queen Tina, but Nashville Pussy has fun with it. They also do a version of the KISS tune “Snowblind.” It’s funny hearing it with Alice Cooper style vocals and the sped-up guitar work. You have to add this to your collection. KISS fans may end up buying it just for collecting purposes.
