When you’re talking sleaze metal history, you’ve got to look towards NASTY IDOLS as one of the more legendary and innovative of European sleaze rock acts. You would figure that the band which started back in 1987 would have given up hope for world damnation but to the contrary these metal men still have their youth and as the growing number of Swedish sleaze bands look for the success they also look for direction from their leader NASTY IDOL.
Now in 2009 and over twenty years in the business, NASTY IDOLS are about to release “Boys Town” with twelve raw and raunchy tracks. These boys aren’t underground anymore they’re flying high with the success they deserve. Let’s check out the new disc, starting with “Rock Out”, that has the feel of TWISTED SISTER’s “Under The Blade”. Andy Pierce’s vocals could be compared to a mixture of Jeff Keith (TESLA) and heavy hitter Michael Monroe.
“Boys Town” really captures the TESLA vibe but the thing that differs is NASTY IDOLS kicks it up a notch and pushes the track into high gear. From power chords to slicing guitar licks, Peter Espinoza make’s a huge presence.
If you’re looking for diversity check out “Nite Like This”, it’s a smooth ballad and with the raspy vocals of Pierce it brings a sense of BACKYARD BABIES meets GUNS N’ ROSES. Great Tunes!
Don’t think for a minute after that ballad these boys have gone soft. The next two tunes “Crashlanding” and “48 Hours” rock with anthem style but the fastest, hardest, heaviest track has to be “Evil One” that pushes the limit of sleazy to another level. I mean Peter Espinoza goes off and the vocals by Pierce shred.
Hit that cowbell Mr. Dahl; another classic rocker in “It’s Not Love” that features some kickin’ drums by Dahl. Heavy harmonies and background vocals make this another top quality tune.
“It Ain’t Easy” power-drives as the closing track and is possibly my favorite tune with it being just a great classic rock song with Slash style guitar licks and the vocals and harmonies are just killer.
You know what I like most is when a band gives 100% and on “Boys Town” I think NASTY IDOLS have!
