If you were from New York City or the northern NJ area and frequented the rock clubs and theaters back in the 80’s and early 90’s you no doubt have to remember the Staten Island band NY FURY. These guys were big on image and showmanship and for a group that didn’t land the major label deal they certainly outclassed many that did in that department. NY FURY’s image and logo was all over the place; featured in local music newspapers and magazines so it’s a wonder they never got signed. For me personally, NY FURY was always a mythical band of sorts. I remember the countless full-page concert ads in local music rags like The East Coast Rocker (aka Aquarian) and thinking this band will be the next big thing. Sadly, it didn’t happen but not for lack of effort that’s for sure as bassist and main man Gene Hunter promoted the hell out of the band at every turn! Well, some 35 years later NY FURY is finally seeing their music released to the world in the form of “I Want It All” on CD (and vinyl as well) from Eonian Records (www.eonianrecords.com).

As mentioned, NY FURY had a huge stage production for a “local act”. They seemingly took their love of bands like KISS, IRON MAIDEN and even the NY DOLLS and brought it to the clubs and theaters that they frequently headlined (and sold out). They even got the chance to travel to and play an arena gig in Puerto Rico for thousands of passionate fans and then played on the USS Intrepid on the Hudson River in NYC (many years before KISS by the way!).  These were no small feats for an unsigned act.

“I Want It All” is aptly titled as collectors and fans of the band have been hoping for a proper release of their catalog of demos that were recorded throughout the years. Songs like the anthemic “If Only You Can See Me Know” and “Hopin’ Love Will Come” are finally seeing the light of day for many old fans (and the new ones who will come on board). Those songs showcase the band’s more melodic side and the great harmony vocals and guitar playing really stand out. While other songs like the album opener “Play The Game” and “Sit On This” bring the harder-edged side of the band to the forefront. You’ll hear shades of David Lee Roth and the mighty VAN HALEN in the vocal department, especially on the track “Play The Game”. “Bad Enough” is another 80s hard rock anthem that is melodic to the core, and you even get a few instrumentals from the band as well in the form of “Let The Orgy Commence”, the acoustic “Believe” and the jam track “My American Pie”.

“I Want It All” is comprised of 15 tracks with a bulk of them being from the 1989-1991 period and two earlier demo songs from 1987 are included as well. As mentioned earlier the band and label are also releasing a limited-edition version on vinyl with a slightly abbreviated track listing but it also includes a Christmas song that is not available on other versions. All in all, “I Want It All” is a nice package that any new or longtime fan will appreciate so check it out!
