When I first heard OPHIURA latest CD I wasn’t sure what to make of it. I listened to "Ancestral Whispers" many times and even had my senior staff writer Mark Balogh have a listen. We both came to the same conclusion OPHIURA can be a force of great magnitude with some fine tweaking.

Alex Mari is the master behind OPHIURA writing all the lyrics and music and with this rest of OPHIURA they diver one fantastic EP. The opening track “Letter From Hell” is a jolt to the system with guitars blazing and with the vocal range of Mari that has a slight tang of Klaus Meine makes these guys unique. OPHIURA has a style that is unheard of mixing progressive, melodic and rock all in one and the musicianship is by far some of the best for any unsigned band I’ve heard. So you labels listen up, pick these guys up quickly!

“Resurrection” will just blow you away and the mesmerizing vocals of Alexi Mari are breathtaking. Mari has total charisma and command that will conjure up some of the best in music history. I rarely rave about unsigned bands like this one, but OPHIURA is over the top. “Aenigma” is a change of pace with a much heavier tone but still ripping down walls.

If you’re looking for diversity check out “Ancestral Whispers”. A riveting ballad featuring Mari & Big LEOof FERRARA, ex: singer of BELLOCARICO, man, that is killer. I mean killer! The guitar work is melodic and screaming for attention.

You haven’t heard anything yet they saved the best track for last “Let Our Dreams Be Free”. If you’re looking for the TKO, this is it. What a unbelievable ending track that has all the perfect breaks, their vocals jumps octaves and even goes higher during the second half as OPHIURA brings home the gold, pounding the door down with this totally amazing EP. Like I said in the beginning, I don’t rave about unsigned bands a lot but these guys need a major label; you have to hear them to believe these guys. They have the makings of SUPERSTARS, with just a little fine tuning and watch out!!! The band is currently working on a full-length CD can’t wait to hear this one. Remember the name Alex Mari.
