PHANTOM ROCKET is a power-rock trio out of New York City consisting of singer and guitarist Nicolas Ruibal, drummer and backing vocalist Salchi and bassist Enrique Mancia. They have released their new EP in digital format back in April of this year and it is available on bandcamp.com (https://phantomrocket.bandcamp.com/releases). The music is hard-edge yet-melodic with soulful melodies and is highly accessible.
The opening track off their four-track “Launch” EP is “Light In Your Eyes” and it showcases some powerfully punchy production with heavy guitars and an overall great groove. Track two “Cry Baby” is a bit more poppy in feel yet retains the edgy guitar sound but also introduces some synthesizer sounds (courtesy of Tommy Von Voigt). Nicolas Ruibal offers up some tasty guitar-work and the song is pure (heavy on the) power-pop and a real winner. “So Many Faces” opens with some processed vocals before quickly leading into a heavy modern rocker of sorts. The band has a definite edge to their music yet the vocals and harmonies bring an accessible element to their music. Ruibal offers a short but great guitar solo on the song as well. The EP ends with “Merry Go Round”, opening with the chorus over a guitar riff and then leads into a thundering drumbeat coupled with pop style harmony vocals and a classic rock sounding guitar solo is added for good measure. The song shows the ability of Phanton Rocket to offer up several musical styles on one song and make it work to perfection.
I think Phantom Rocket is onto something with their sound and this is a band to keep an eye on. So check out the “Launch” EP over at their band camp page (https://phantomrocket.bandcamp.com/releases) and enjoy.
