As RED LINE CHEMISTRY get ready to gear up for their upcoming tour starting April 18th as special guest on select dates with FILTER and BUCKCHERRY, their new release “Tug Of War” will hit April 30th.  The good people at SKH Music sent over an advance for us to review.

The disc is produced by Nick Raskulinecz (ALICE IN CHAINS, FOO FIGHTERS, STONE SOUR). It’s kind of eerie that producer Nick Raskulinecz can bring out sounds of ALICE IN CHAINS in artists he works with as he’s done that with RLCRED LINE CHEMISTRY sure will move up the ladder as the music and lyrics on “Tug of War” is eye-opening to the dark side of reality.

“Black Roses” starts the disc off with a great track about demons in your mind and you have nowhere left to run. Brett Ditgen’s lead vocals conjure up memories of past greats and demand your total attention. Brett possesses a range of octaves and the aura he brings from Layne Staley to even that of John Lennon will be heard on the title trackTug of War”.

“Paralyzed”, which is the first single off of “Tug Of War”, once again lyrically you just have to hear the words of RLC. Listening to the music is great but without knowing the lyrical content of the songs it’s almost meaningless. Dave Fyten and Andrew Breit add vibrant guitar licks that are an essential element of RLC but the spoken words by Brett Ditgen brings the band together as a unit.

“The Fighter” for me is a high point that starts off melodic with drummer Mike Mazzarese tapping the kit and elevates to a high pitch settling back to a melodic gem then throttles into a break out guitar solo.

“Eyes to the Sky” shows diversity with a sort of power ballad with killer soaring guitar. I love the additional keyboards of Andrew Breit that gives the song that push of excitement. “Through the Haze” has acoustics hitting a true chord for me almost in the vein of Hall Of Famer JEHTRO TULL. Brett Ditgen does a killer job on the track that adds just another dimension to RLC.

“Fall of Man” brings another style with a BEATLE-ish flare. I’m impressed with the array of style changes on “Tug Of War”, yet it keeping to the basic RLC base sound. This is another favorite track on the disc.

Ending the disc is “What Do You Want From Me” and it brings once again a song that has the vision of another all-time great PINK FLOYD. “Tug of War” should put RLC on a fast track to the top of the rock world. It’s just an amazing release to sit back and enjoy.
