Rod Stewart is at it again! This time around, Rod has married his distinguishing vocals with some of rocks greatest classic songs. I am not sure that many folks under forty will be familiar with some of the songs on the CD. A lot of songs are taken from a time when AM radio was the only thing around. Some songs a little newer, however, you still should give this a good listen and enjoy. “Have You Ever Seen the Rain “written by John Fogerty is the 1st cut on the CD. There are not too many people that can sing a song like this without losing that good feeling John Fogerty gave it. Rod has conquered this task.
When I was a kid sitting in the back of dad’s car listening to AM radio, one of the songs that has always tagged a memory is Elvin Bishop’s “Fooled Around And Fell In Love” Wow! Rod’s takes it on and jarred the old memory up again, superb! The next cut “Stand By You” a song done by PRETENDER Chrissie Hynde loses a little something. It would have been great if he brought Chrissie in for a duet! “It’s a Heartache” done by Trick Pony, Bonnie Tyler and many more is another classic done well by Rod also. As I said, if you remember listening to AM radio as I did, you will definitely remember the next tune “Day After Day” I must compliment the Lap Steel, Pedal Steel player throughout the album Greg Leisz. Greg has added flavor and color to the CD without saturating, very tasteful!
By today standards of music, I would not call this a rock album. I would label it ‘Easy Going Rock.’ Perfect example is Van Morrison’s “Crazy Love.” Rod again makes this sound as if it was written for him. Rod has surrounded himself with top-flight musicians that truly know how to complement a vocalist. Rod has taken these musical timepieces and truly made them sound like they were all his own! This is a must CD for music lovers of all Genres. Good job Rod!!
