Just imagine two brothers from Switzerland starting a black metal band in 1987. Well, it has come true for two brothers. Vorph and Xy brought forth the reigns of black metal back in the day - eventually changing over to Electronic / industrial metal. The two master minds of Samael - Vorph writes all the lyrics and Xy arranges all the music. What a family. This is basically their 18th time making a record counting demos, compilations, and full length CD’s - with their new release called “Reign of Light”just hitting stores in 2005. The CD starts with an Indian flare bouncing into Rammstein style vocals, only more legible. The song is what is called perfection has spirit and good melody. This would be a great soundtrack song for the “Blade” movie with Wesley Snipes. I am not a big fan of the harsh vocals but the vocal style fits in fantastically with the music in this situation. Track-three “High Above” brings a Middle Eastern musical symphony mixture with electronic metal; quite a unique sound. I think that since Samael has been around for so long, if this new CD does not gain exposure for the band, they could always go into making soundtracks. Their music can make a huge mark in that field. I like the added bonus video on the CD called “Telepathic.”
