So do you think John Mellencamp caught his style of music from classic rocker Bob Seger? The ageless wonder Bob Seger is back with a new release called “Face The Promise” this release was slated for distribution in 2004/05 but for some reason delayed.
Bob is a presence in the music business and in the hearts of many, and back in the mid-nineties, I had the pleasure of seeing him on tour with Kiss, this man has not missed a beat. The vocals are still intact and the songwriting is platinum. Right from the opening track “Wreck This Heart,” I was getting flashbacks of the multi-platinum songs Mr. Seger broadcasted from radios across the country. Mr. Seger is such a smooth operator and the songs on “Face the Promise” will go down as another notch in his belt with gold studs.
“Wait For Me” will calm your blood pressure with the soothing vocals and twang of guitar, it so relaxing to hear some good music that don’t have to blow out your eardrums. I am not saying all the songs are mellow; Bob kicks his heels up on some rockers like the title track “Face The Promise” that reminds me of Stevie Ray Vaughn. You can listen to this CD from start to finish without skipping a track because all the songs have something you gotta hear. “No Matter Who You Are” is a song that stands tall and has the feel of the great vintage songs by Seger.
Bob always stood by the traditional ways with high-class choral backgrounds and horns that bring the songs to life. Kid Rock and Seger totally shred together on “Real Mean Bottle”, this must have been recorded while they were downing a few brews… For all you country folk check out “The Answer’s In The Question” where Bob hooks up with Patty Loveless on this amazing duet. This is for sure a CD you want to add to your collection of classics tunes.
