Elect the Dead,” is the debut solo album by SYSTEM OF A DOWN’s front man Serj Tankian, and to put one word on the release it would be ‘guessing’. why guessing? Well, the album starts off on a great key note with “Empty Walls” which is also the first single and video that is exquisite and technical, but it heads in a variety of directions and after each song, you wonder where is he heading next.

The songs are fast, erratic and mind-blowing from start to finish the songs are like hitting your head with a hammer until it gushes blood and to make it better here’s a Band-Aid. Could be a soundtrack, could be a symphony, could be a story it will be up to you to decide.

Serj played most of the instruments himself but did get help from SYSTEM OF A DOWN drummer John Dolmayan and former PRIMUS/current GUNS ‘N' ROSES drummer Bryan "Brain" Mantia, along with Dan Monti on guitar and bass, Larry "Ler" LaLonde of PRIMUS on guitar, opera singer Ani Maldjian and some string players, Antonio Pontarelli among them.

“Feed Us” is one song that stands above the rest, it is unique and with the powerful throttling voice of Tankian, it becomes outstanding. The acoustic guitar, the violin and the changing style make this song brilliant. This tune is truly masterful.

The highlight track is “Saving Us”, a rejuvenating slashing song with a barrage of instrumental highlights; Serj just goes off the wall with his vocals on this one and the acoustic guitar slowing things down at the end makes you wonder, ‘just imagine what goes through his mind.’

This is one of those albums that you will be in a dream state from calm to radical convulsing with saliva dripping from the side of your mouth. This guy is a musical genius to some and a nut to others, but one thing for sure he knows how to put out a killer album and possesses one of the best vocals in music today.

If you’re a SYSTEM OF A DOWN fans, you’re in for a treat.
